Course Overview

The course content includes 48 lessons and 2 assignments.

Get started with Java by installing all the necessary (free) software that you'll be using to create apps throughout the entire Bootcamp.

Learn all the important “nitty-gritty” details of the Core Java language.

This includes things like common data types, control structures and how to read input from the user.

Java is an Object Oriented Programming language (OOP), you'll learn what that means in this week's lessons.

Plus you'll learn why it's so important to make use of methods when coding, as they are at the root of why coding is so powerful and helpful in the real-world.

In the real-world, you'll be dealing with files (and Databases) all the time. This section provides great practice for reading / parsing data from a file.

You'll also learn some common coding conventions that should be used when designing real-world apps.

Fun Assignments to Test Your Skills

Compound Interest Calculator

You will build a console based application that will take inputs from the user and output a table of values that represent how much money you will accumulate via a compound interest calculator.

You'll learn valuable skills like:

  • Parsing user input

  • Creating methods to reduce code duplication
  • Using the Math library to solve more complex problems

Filtering Remote Software Jobs

You will then build a Java app that will read a list of software jobs from a file and filter them to include only those jobs that are of interest to you.

You'll learn valuable skills like:

  • Ingesting data from a file
  • Using data structures to store your data
  • How to modify data stored in a data structure
